The Squad Sanity board in the van.
Sanity is a game mechanic featured in Specter II, playing such an important role in terms of gameplay. You can regenerate sanity by standing near lit Candles and drinking Sanity Soda. Additionally, players can avail Occult Cards for a chance to get Sane and Refined Sane Method, two cards that help in sanity regeneration. Contrastingly, staying inside the map's perimeter for extended periods can deplete your sanity, resulting for frequent ghost hunts to occur.
Sanity is depleted by the following:
- Staying in an unlit room
- Staring at a Phantom during a hunt
- Passive Yurei ability
- Passive Demon ability
- Interacting with Cursed Objects
- Using Insane and Refined Insane Occult Cards
Functions
Low sanity deteriorates the player's vision and is followed by ghost whispers, making it difficult for some to traverse the map, especially if there are no light source present in the area. Ghosts, on the other hand, have special abilities that depend on the average squad sanity:
- Lower team sanity increases a Wendigo's speed.
- Players with the lowest sanity are often targeted by an Aswang.
- Reaching sanity below 80% initiates the Thayé's hunting ability.
Interacting with the Ouija Board whilst having insufficient sanity (≤ 30%) can cause the item to break, leading to a Cursed Hunt.
Tips and Tricks
- The Sanity Monitor Gamepass is useful in ghost hunting, especially if players are looking for sanity-draining ghosts. Equipping the gamepass will allow players to observe their sanity without going back to the Van, sparing a lot of time.
- Use sanity-related occult cards to your advantage.
Trivia
- The ghost whispers from having low sanity in Specter I uses the same audio.
- Your sanity on the Squad Sanity board will turn into a question mark (?) when you die or leave the game.
- The Sanity Monitor gamepass costs $3.12 USD.
